The only exception for restricted transportation of live animals is in the case of a medical emergency for which a veterinary note must be provided and arrangements made prior to check-in.
Live animals travelling with passengers, or as cargo, must be fasted for a minimum of six hours prior to departure to prevent accidents. Owners may be held accountable for damages caused to the aircraft or other passenger’s belongings as a result of the animal’s transport.
Animals travelling as cargo or checked baggage must be stored in the baggage compartment in a plastic hard-top carrier or a wire-top kennel with a plastic tray bottom. Wire top kennels must have a blanket for the bottom and a protective top cover. This can be vinyl or an additional blanket.
Animals travelling with a passenger as a carry-on must be declared at check-in and travel in a soft-sided kennel that is able to fit under the seat in front of the passenger. If the animal cannot fit under the seat in front of the passenger, animals will be denied boarding for the
violation of Transport Canada Safety Regulations or must be checked in.
Passengers travelling with animals must notify Northwestern Air Lease agents at least 24hrs prior to travel or risk their pet being denied boarding.
ANIMALS THAT MAY CAUSE AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO PASSENGERS OR CREW MUST BE TRANSPORTED
IN THE REAR BAGGAGE AREA.
Northwestern Air Lease reserves the right to refuse the transport of any live animal for any reason.
